Which Niagara Falls Boat Tour Is Right for You?

A few quick questions, one recommendation, and every reason shown.

Tour boat and a rainbow below the Horseshoe Falls
Short answerThere are two falls boat tours, run by separate companies on opposite sides of the border. Use this tool to apply their published 2026 rules (season, hours, tickets, border, access, evening options) to your situation. It gives a recommendation, the reasons, and what to check before you go.

Which boat is right for your trip?

How this tool decides

The tool follows a short set of rules, each based on a published fact rather than an opinion:

  • Season. Maid of the Mist's 2026 season runs April 24 to November 8. Niagara City Cruises opened May 1, 2026, has no published closing date, and says December sailings depend on weather. If you pick a winter month, the tool says no falls boat is likely to run.
  • Evening rides. Maid of the Mist's published 2026 hours end between 4 pm and 8 pm, earlier than when the falls lights come on, so an evening boat means Niagara City Cruises' evening or Falls Fireworks Cruise on select dates. After sunset those boats go only to the outer edge of the Horseshoe Falls.
  • Where you are. Each boat is on its own side of the border, so crossing is only needed if you want the boat on the other side.
  • Price. The tool compares the two published adult fares using an illustrative ratio, not a live exchange rate, and adds 13% HST to the Canadian fare.
  • Access, strollers and young children. It shows each operator's stated rules and tells you who to call.

What the tool cannot do

It is not a quality ranking. We have not ridden either boat, and no source we found ranks one ride above the other: both last about 20 minutes and both finish in the Horseshoe Falls basin. The tool does not know today's weather, queue lengths or sold-out status, and it does not know 2027 dates because neither operator has published them. Read the full head-to-head comparison for every difference we could verify.

Where the facts come from

Prices, hours and rules come from the operators' own pages and Niagara Parks, listed below and checked on October 17, 2026. All inputs and outputs stay in your browser; nothing is sent to us.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Niagara Falls boat chooser work?

It applies each operator's published 2026 facts to your answers: season, hours, ticket model, border position, access rules and evening options. It returns a recommendation, the reasons and a checklist. It is not a quality ranking.

Does it know about 2027?

No. Neither Maid of the Mist nor Niagara City Cruises had published 2027 dates when we last verified on October 17, 2026.

Is my information stored?

No. The tool runs entirely in your browser and sends nothing to our servers.
